S-Video AV Cable
[ad_1]
An S-Video AV cable is most commonly used with game consoles, such as the Xbox 360. It is one of two compatible cables that can be used with the Xbox: the other cable being the Xbox 360 component HD AV cable. The best visual performance comes from the Xbox 260 component HD AV cable, as it has been specifically developed for use with large screen, high resolution plasma and LCD TVs. The difference is that the Xbox 360 component HD AV cable converts the signal from the Xbox 360 into its red, green and blue components and is capable of achieving 720p and 1080i gaming output. It can also allow progressive scan DVD playback at a resolution of 480p. For older TV models, the Xbox 360 component HD AV cable comes with a composite video output built in as well as stereo audio outputs. When using the Xbox 360 component HD AV cable with standard definition TV, make sure you connect the yellow composite connector and set the HDTV switch to STD (standard).
However, if your TV has S-Video capability, then this cable offers an enhanced performance for your Xbox 360 over composite video, as S-Video is capable of offering a far superior picture. This makes music, gaming and video a much more enjoyable experience. And, it can even offer Dolby Digital 5.1 sound functionality
There are several steps to successfully attaching the Xbox 360 S-Video AV cable to your TV and audio system. Firstly, make sure the Xbox console is switched off. Secondly, connect the AV connector on the S-Video cable to the AV port on the console. Next, connect the S-Video connector on the S-Video AV cable to the S-Video input on the TV, remembering to leave the yellow composite video connector unconnected, as you don’t want composite video. Finally, connect the left and right (red and white) audio connectors on the S-Video cable to the sound inputs on the TV, amplifier, receiver or home entertainment system. ThatÆs all there is to it. Just remember to set the correct resolution in the console menu on the Xbox 360. YouÆll find this parameter in the system settings menu.
To improve the gaming experience further you can add digital audio capability by using a digital audio cable in conjunction with your S-Video AV cable. Simply connect the S/PDIF optical cable (also known as a Toslink) to the digital audio input on the TV and to the digital audio output on the console of the Xbox 360.
