Choosing Between 3 or 4 Wheel Mobility Scooters

Choosing Between 3 or 4 Wheel Mobility Scooters

Although there is a little speculation about the reliability of 3 and 4 wheel mobility scooters, one thing is certain; mobility scooters themselves are an excellent way of helping people with mobility problems get around.

Three Wheel Scooters

When it comes to choosing a scooter, many people assume that a three wheeler will have worse balance due to having one less wheel. As a matter of fact, both are good for balance and are only different because they are better suited for different types of spaces.

A 3 wheel scooter for example is better suited to slimmer spaces due to its slightly smaller shape. The single front wheel allows you to turn corners a lot easier than a 4 wheeler, and also means that you can squeeze through smaller gaps in stores or in public buildings.

Three wheel models are easily the most popular than 4 wheeled models and 3 wheelers are sold 4 times out of 5 over 4 wheelers. However, it doesn’t make them any better, simply better suited to different uses. For example, a 3 wheel scooter is considered to be better in smaller spaces and on smoother terrain.

Four Wheel Scooters

Due to the slightly better stability of a 4 wheel scooter, these models are good for riding on a variety of surfaces. If you know that you live in an area where surfaces are rough or you are likely to travel across bumpy ground on a regular basis, 4 wheels may suit you better as they have the 4 wheels for the additional support, thus providing you with a less bumpy ride.

4 wheel scooters, just like the 3 wheel models can be dismantled into a number of parts to make transportation of the scooter much easier, and can be put back together just as easily. Four wheel models tend to be able to hold more weight as well, which is ideal if you require a heavy duty model. It’s important to note that four wheel models can offer longer battery life and traveling distance too although this can vary from model to model.

Ultimately, it is important to remember that there is no ‘better’ style of electric scooter, simply a style that would better suit your lifestyle. When you know what you will use your scooter for the majority of the time, it will be easier for you to make a decision about the type of model you should purchase.
