Engineering is profession and an art to develop and apply structures, machines, materials, devices, process, and systems through scientific, technical and mathematical methods. Engineering is categorized into two: Forward and reverse engineering.

Forward engineering involves the traditional methods of engineering. The development of such inventions comes from critical thinking, to creation of logical design up to implementation and production.

Reverse engineering is the method of determining the technological function and principle of a certain object, equipment, system or device through analyzing and by using electronic and mechanical device or even a software program. The principle in this kind of engineering is to create or to develop another product using the principles behind a specific device.

The process of investigating the system of a certain product in reverse engineering is to recognize its components and their relationships, to develop a prototype of the system and to develop a logical and physical representation of the system in a higher form.

The common field that uses this kind of engineering is entertainment, chemical, electronic, software engineering, microchips, consumer product and mechanical design fields. The principle of reverse engineering is not merely to copy or to duplicate the product but it is also used the future development of the same product and to reduce products time development. Manufacturers are continually looking for new developments and new ideas on how to lessen the time development in order enhance marketability, quality and durability of the product.

Other reasons why reverse engineering is being implemented: the original developer of the product isn’t longer producing the product, the original developer doesn’t exist but the consumer needs it, the documentation of the product is not enough or was lost, reformat of the device, to investigate the opponent’s product features and to modernize the outdated materials and some obsolete manufacturing techniques.
